He's pretty hands-off and her disloyalty to him is unwarranted. The worst part of this novel, for me, was how Ky hates on her father because he loves her and cares about her. Good thing everything is standardized and one size fits all! The FTL drive runs low on oil and malfunctions, but the local grease monkey can slap a new one in in no time at all. When it ended, I found myself wondering what adventure Ky would get into next - and what amazing coincidences would get her out of trouble. But despite the pastiche of teenage daydreams, this novel is well written, has a cohesive story, and moderately interesting characters. There's even a cameo by the "mean girl" and the "successful woman who makes it look so easy, gosh, I wanna be like her." Like all poor little rich girls, Ky is totally independent as long as Daddy is there to bail her out.
Kylara has her heart broken (boys are bad), is thrown out of the space academy (life is so unfair), is treated like a child by her parents (because they don't understand her), and more.
If you're a teenage girl who hates how her father smothers and protects her, thinks your current puppy crush is true love, admits that you know very little and have less experience but don't believe that means you can't do just about anything, then this book is for you.Įvery angsty cliche in the world is embroidered into this book.
